Clinical Expertise
Everything Dr. Powell teaches, researches, and trains is grounded in more than 15 years of clinical practice. She has counseled in Texas since 2011, including work with veterans, youth and families in rural communities, and families in the child welfare system. She founded Distinctive Counseling & Consulting, PLLC, in Corpus Christi, where she provides clinical oversight and supervision. Her approach integrates EMDR therapy with Relational-Cultural Theory.

Dr. Powell partners with agencies, school districts such as Mission CISD, and research teams on EMDR implementation, trauma-informed practice, and program development.
EMDR Trainings
As an EMDR Trainer and EMDR Consultant with CompassionWorks, LLC, Dr. Powell facilitates EMDRIA-approved basic training and consultation for mental health professionals learning how to use EMDR.
Counselor Education
Dr. Powell is an Assistant Professor of Counselor Education (Rural Mental Health Emphasis) and Program Coordinator at Texas A&M University–Kingsville, and she prepares the next generation of counselors at the master's and doctoral levels.
