Clinical Approach
Dr. Powell believes connection is the intervention. Her clinical work brings together evidence-based trauma treatment and a relational foundation, so healing happens within a safe, growth-fostering therapeutic relationship.
EMDR Therapy
As an EMDRIA Certified Therapist, Dr. Powell uses Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), grounded in the Adaptive Information Processing model and the standard 8-phase protocol. She brings that expertise to her work as an EMDRIA-approved consultant and trainer.
Relational-Cultural Theory
Relational-Cultural Theory (RCT) is central to Dr. Powell's work as a clinician, supervisor, and scholar. She has facilitated RCT-based groups using the Jean Baker Miller Training Institute's Relational Practice in Action manual, and she has co-authored research on RCT interventions and RCT in counselor education.
Trauma-Informed Care
Dr. Powell's career spans trauma-informed work with veterans, youth in the juvenile justice system, families in the child welfare system, and rural communities across Texas. She also served as an American Red Cross Disaster Mental Health Responder.

Owner/Founder, Distinctive Counseling & Consulting, PLLC (Corpus Christi), which she founded in 2020. The practice offers telehealth and in-person counseling, and she provides clinical oversight and supervision to its clinicians.
